Senior Director
Pre-Collegiate Programs

TRIO Works! is our motto, based on evidence that has been growing since TRIO programs were established in 1964 as a result of the Civil Rights Act and the Higher Education Act of 1965.  Pre-Collegiate Programs at Sonoma State is home to eleven TRIO programs, including seven Upward Bound programs and two Talent Search programs.  We also host two National TRIO Training programs (Priorities 5 and 6).

Talent Search and Upward Bound programs are two of the original three US Department of Education programs hence dubbed TRIO. Here at Sonoma State, over 2,000 students who attend partner schools in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino and Napa counties are served by Academic Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Upward Bound Math and Science.

As the first in my family to graduate from college, I share with our students the perspective that we are resilient and full of promise. Bolstered with information and appropriate resources, they will overcome barriers that might otherwise prevent them from accessing and succeeding in the college or university of their choice.

All of us in Pre-Collegiate Programs, a strong network of educational equity professionals, aim to provide information and services to families in SSU’s local communities to prepare K-12 students for college success.  Please explore our website to learn about the various ways we help our students connect with higher education.
